Lorna Lou Wesseling was born on July 5, 1958 in Platte, SD to James and Berniece (Koopal) Wesseling. She graduated from Chamberlain SD High School in 1976 and went on to continue her education, becoming a Legal Secretary. After completing her education, she relocated to New York City where she was employed at a legal firm for several years. She united in marriage to Howard Blumberg on June 21, 1981 in New York. To this union a daughter, Amanda Jean Blumberg was born on June 3, 1986 who was the light of her life. In 1999 the marriage ended.

Grateful for having shared in Lorna's life: her daughter, Amanda Jean Blumberg of Bronx, NY; her father, James Wesseling of Parkston, SD; 2 sisters: Carmen (Randy) Assmus of Lime Springs, IA and Brenda (Richard) Hebrink of LaMont, IA; a brother, Mike (Paula) Wesseling of Fairfax, VA; great grandmother, Gertrude Wesseling of Sioux Falls, SD; a very special friend, Steven Olson of Lincoln, NE; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lorna was preceded in death by: her mother, Berniece (Koopal) Wesseling; her grandparents, Jennie and Martin "Mert" Koopal; and grandfather, Harold Wesseling.

Lorna was a very kind, considerate and wonderful person with a big heart. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who met her.

Berniece Grace Koopal Wesseling was born December 27, 1935 to Martin and Jennie (Dykema) Koopal in rural Platte, South Dakota, Charles Mix County. She completed her education through the 8th grade and went on to earn her GED. On August 24, 1954, she was united in marriage to James H. Wesseling at the First Reformed Church in Platte. She had made her home in Rapid City, Chamberlain and Aurora Center, SD before returning to Platte. Together she and James helped many older residents live a more independent life through their ownership of the Platte Assisted Living.

Berniece was a woman of strong faith and member of the First Reformed Church in Platte; collected Precious Moments figurines; had a green thumb; enjoyed bowling; was a hard worker and a good wife and mother.

Berniece was preceded in death by: her parents, Martin and Jennie Koopal; a brother, John Koopal; her father-in-law, Harold Wesseling and a brother-in-law, Harlan Mesman.
