- Phyllis Rust, 71, glided peacefully into her Savior's arms June 6, 2009. Unexpectedly we may say, but timely in the Master's plan.Phyl was born February 11, 1938 to Andrew and Etta DeJong, the second of 10 daughters. She married John Rust September 5, 1958. They lived an active life and raised 2 children. Throughout their marriage, they lived in Minnesota and Arkansas. Each house John provided, Phyl made it home using her gifts of decorating, sewing and gardening making them beautiful inside and out.Hard work, perpetual motion, nurturing and tending to her home, family and others was evident in everything she did.John and Phyl were married 50 years. They enjoyed varied interests and integrated them into their daily life and travels. John and Phyl enjoyed traveling South in the winter and camping in the Airstream John restored. As always, Phyl's traveling projects included sightseeing, antiquing, quilting, trying to keep John on track and making the plan for the day.Phyl exhibited an enthusiasm for life. She loved gardening and became a Master Gardener. She was as often on her knees in the garden as she was on her knees in prayer for others. She used her gifts and talents touching many lives. The beautiful quilts and patterns she created are indicative of the Master's Plan in her life. She was greatly loved and will be terribly missed by her loving husband John, daughter Leslie and husband Bill Humphrey, grandchildren Ashley and Whitney, son Doug and wife Gerri Ann Rust.Phyl is survived in life by sisters Fran and Dave Maat, California, Dort and Poncho Jacinto, Mexico, Joyce and Loren Timmer, MN, Carolyn and Warren Kamstra, MN, Jan and Randy Godeke, MN, Julie and Rick Neufeld, Tennessee, Shirley and John Hyre, Florida, Linda and Jere Phillips, MN, Sandi DeJong, MN, many nieces, nephews, and friends.Phyl is preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Etta DeJong, and granddaughter Jordain Rust.May God give us strength, comfort and grace until we see her again
