- Anna Lucille (Koopal) Vanderheiden was born on September 24, 1931 in Platte, South Dakota to Martin and Jennie (Dykema) Koopal. She attended Hamilton School in rural Charles Mix County.
On June 1, 1951 she was united in marriage to Eugene Lloyd Vanderheiden at the First Reformed Church in Platte. They started farming west of Platte in 1954, after Eugene's return from the Army. Anna was a housewife and helped Eugene on the farm. After Eugene's death in 2010, Anna enjoyed going to activities at the Senior Center, bible study, spending time with her cats and mowing lawn at the farm. Anna moved to Prairie View Assisted Living in Kimball, South Dakota in 2014 due to health reasons. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Platte.
Grateful for having shared in Anna's life: her son, Allen (Dawn) Vanderheiden of Platte, South Dakota; two grandchildren: Stevie Vanderheiden and Alisha Vanderheiden of Casper, Wyoming; two great-granddaughters: Tayven Gene Nab and Mabry Julie Anna Vanderheiden of Casper, Wyoming; a sister, Helen Mesman of Platte, South Dakota; a brother-in-law, Jim Wesseling and a sister-in-law, Gloria Koopal both of Parkston, South Dakota; four brothers-in-law: Floyd (Gert) Vanderheiden, Arnold (Shirley) Vanderheiden, Donnie (Joann) Vanderheiden, and Wayne Vanderheiden all of Platte, South Dakota; two sisters-in-law: Iona Dufrain of Platte, South Dakota and Miriam Vanderheiden of St. Peters, Minnesota; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Vanderheiden (Nov. 29, 2010); her parents, Martin and Jennie Koopal; a brother, John Koopal; a sister, Berniece Wesseling; four brothers-in-law: Harlan Mesman, Lyle Vanderheiden, Don Dufrain and Wes Wilkins; and two sisters-in-law: Elaine Wilkins and Varee Vanderheiden
