- De Jong was born February 26, 1914, in Sibley, the son of Fred and Jennie (Steensma) De Jong. He was raised in the Doon-Inwood area and later moved to Carnes with his family.
He married Ruth Lydia Streyffeler February 2, 1935, in Wayne, Nebraska. Except for one year at Carnes, the couple made their home in Orange City.
He was a sales representative for home improvement products most of his life.
He was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jennie "Jackie and her husband, Arnold Vander Spoel of Bitely. Michigan, and Beverly Van Abbema of Orange City; a son and his wife, Eugene and Leslie De Jong of Tempe, Arizona; a sister and her husband, Sue and Tom Jellema of Sioux Falls; a brother and his wife, Tenas and Joanne De Jong of Tustin. California; a brother-in-law, John Van Bemmel of Orange City; eight grandchildren; and 15 great~grandchi1dren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Van Bemmel, and a brother, Jake De Jong.
