- Rena was born March 16, 1915 at Ireton, the daughter of Fred and Jennie (De Jager) De Jong. Except for a few years at Pease, Minn., she was raised at Ireton where she first attended a country school and then the Christian school.
On June 6, 1945 she married Art De Boer at Ireton. They farmed near Ireton until 1968 when they moved to Orange City.
In the fall of 1993, they both became residents of the Heritage House.
Mrs. De Boer was a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City where she participated in the Lydia Circle. In earlier years she taught Sunday school and catechism classes at Ireton.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters and their husbands, Marcia and Bert Groeneweg and Norma and Robert Lucas, all of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a son and his wife, Arlin and Laura De Boer of Sharon, Conn.; six grandchildren, Rhonda Boyum, Mark Groeneweg, Angela and Jeffrey Lucas, and Jenny and Jesse De Boer; two brothers, Henry De Jong of Orange City and Alfred De Jong of Ireton; and a sister, Esther Mae Bolkema of Grand Rapids, Mich.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted De Jong and Bernard De Jong, and two sisters, Rose Mulder and Ann Mulder.
