- She was born in Cologne, MN on March 18, 1933 to Anton and Catherine (Laumann) Bongaarts. She attended high school in Shakopee, and graduated with the class of 1951. On August 19, 1952, Donna was joined in Holy Matrimony to Roman Becker at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Shakopee. They enjoyed nearly 50 years of married life together before Roman’s passing in 2002.
Donna was the caretaker of the family and provided everyone with unconditional love and support. She helped Roman with the dairy farm chores, volunteered with many church groups and activities, sang with the Resurrection Choir, attended Mass regularly, and helped maintain the church–all while raising 11 children. No matter how hectic her schedule was, Donna always kept a warm and calm demeanor; she also had a witty sense of humor and always had a smile on her face. She treasured her faith, family, and friends above all. Donna also enjoyed spending time playing cards, completing puzzles, tending her gardens, baking, quilting, and bowling on a league team.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roman; daughter, LeAnn; granddaughter, Heidi Becker; parents, Anton and Catherine Bongaarts; brothers, Greg and Gordon (Helen); sisters, Dolores (Edwin) Weber and Rose Becker; brother-in-law, Albert Breeggemann; and brothers and sisters-in-law from Roman’s family.
